You may have noticed I’ve been MIA since before Christmas. So sorry about that, but I’ve been working on a really big, secret project. And it hasn’t been a picnic. Now that I’m finally feeling somewhat better and we are almost out of the first trimester, I can finally tell you all about my big baby project! Keep reading to find out what this means for the blog. I promise not to turn it into an all about baby blog.
This is my twelve week ultrasound. I know it doesn’t look like much, but believe me it looks a lot more human than it did at eight weeks. Eight weeks basically looked like an amoeba. Anyways, it’s growing right on schedule, which makes me feel like all my symptoms have been worth it.
Symptoms
Speaking of symptoms, I’ve been exhausted. Like I could sleep for twelve hours, get up, eat then take a three hour nap, exhausted. I’ve also been incredibly nauseous. I had to out myself to my boss pretty early on because I almost got sick on him. He wanted to send me home because he thought it might be contagious. “No, I’m just pregnant and your coffee smells awful from all the way across the room”. I haven’t had much coffee since before Thanksgiving, when I didn’t even know I was pregnant. Weird, right? My sense of smell is like a super power.
On the subject of food, I haven’t really been craving massive amounts of sweets, which is really unusual for me. Anything tomatoes is all I’m interested in. Pizza, Tomato Sauce, Tomato Soup, Lasagna, oh, and could you add a tomato to my breakfast sandwich? Thanks! Again, I started craving tomatoes before I even knew I was pregnant.
My last major symptom is incredibly intense emotions. I had no earthly idea how intense they would be. I cry or rage at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately, my husband and my boss get the brunt of my crazy mood swings. They are both men, so I get handled with kid gloves a lot! I am not an overly sentimental person, so this is very uncomfortable and overwhelming to me.
My husband has been AMAZING though. He’s been doing dishes, laundry, house projects, even going out to get dinner when I can’t be peeled off the couch to make something at the end of a long day at work. To say he is excited is a major understatement. When he gets excited or nervous, he just can’t be still. He’s outside right now reconfiguring his entire garage work space. It’s adorable… unless I’m trying to nap. He has also been really understanding. I may have cried like a loon when I talked on the phone to his parents and told them how grateful I was for them to have raised such a wonderful man. Sheesh, talk about emotional.
Statistics
Baby M is due on August 15th, six and 1/2 months from now. Have I mentioned before how impatient I am? Well, I am and this waiting game is driving me crazy. Right now, I’m just over 12 weeks along, but it feels like it’s been so much longer already. Keeping secrets does that to me, I guess.
The baby is about 2 inches long, but it is already moving and jumping on it’s own. At last week’s ultrasound, it wouldn’t stop jumping around long enough to get measured (or take a clear photo). I may have cried at that too. {SIGH}
Upcoming Developments
The next milestone we have to look forward to would be finding out the gender at my 18 week scan. Yes, that is six whole weeks from now. Ugh! Yes, we definitely want to know what it is. I don’t think we have decided yet whether or not we want everybody else to know the gender though. There is something really awesome about not getting rooms full of stuff that is either bubblegum pink or sky blue. Also, It’s cool to think about my husband and I having a little secret to keep all to ourselves. I could cave though. I suck at secrets.
I have the perfect name picked out for a girl, but can’t decide on a boy’s name. Of course, that means I know exactly how I would decorate a boy nursery, but am struggling with a girl’s nursery. In case you’re wondering, I am one of two sisters and no brothers. My husband is one of two brothers and no sisters. Feel free to guess all you like.
What this means for the blog
Well, I don’t want to overwhelm you with every little detail. But obviously, I’ll be posting occasional “bloom” updates and some projects will be baby or pregnancy related. I am still going to be posting plenty of essential oil and natural skin care posts. In fact, I’ll have a skin care post up for next week. And clearly, I will have some home decor and crafty projects still coming out too. I can’t let all the Mister’s hard work go without a couple new tutorials coming your way.
I hope you are excited about the new developments. So, what do you think the baby will be? Feel free to give me your gender predictions in the comments section below, but you better tell me why!
Eee!! Congratulations! I’m going to say a girl! Just because I have a cousin who is pregnant with a boy and we were all hoping for a baby sister for my nephew instead :P

Perhaps a girl!
You didn’t mention much about morning sickness — when I was pregnant I was sick from day one to birth day! Exhausting! lol
All the best with your little one.

I thought you might find this article useful. It’s about essential oil safety during pregnancy. Lea Harris is a trained aromatherapist and all of her recommendations come from Robert Tisserand’s book “Essential Oil Safety”. He’s considered the father of modern day aromatherapy and has been doing research on essential oils for years and years.

No problem with living vicariously! We tried for a little while a few years ago, then I just decided I’d be okay if we couldn’t have one or adopted. Six and a half years of marriage, then BAM! Boy was I surprised!
So excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, cravings are weird. I craved blue Jello but gummy bears (or gummy anything) grossed me out. Excited to follow the journey with you!

Hahaha! I had sour patch watermelon gummies last night! Thank you!
Yay, congrats!! :-) The only other time I was as exhausted as I was during my first trimester was when I had mono. So, yeah, can totally relate. And oh, the nauseau! I am SUCH an impatient person. I could not wait to meet my daughter. Looking forward to all of the updates, m’dear. Such an exciting time!

Sheesh! I’m seriously debating spending $100 to find out the gender three weeks early. So crazy impatient!
Congrats Cajun! I’ve been wondering where you went :). Do your best to enjoy this time — I know that’s hard to hear, but sleep those 12 hours every single time you can!

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so so so happy for you! Your pregnancy sounds a lot like mine – and that incredible sense of smell has unfortunately never left me. I could be a drug dog. I hope you’ll write more about your pregnancy, you’ll enjoy coming back to it and reminiscing because believe it or not you’ll forget a lot of what happens during these 9/10 months.

Yeah!!! Congrats and dear lord can I relate…my sofa and I were close friends in the first trimester. But all of my energy can back in the second trimester…not to kill that happiness, but third trimester is another round with the sofa. I’m excited to see your baby projects! Any nursery DIY planned?
Oh definitely gonna have some nursery diy projects! I’ve heard 1st and 3rd are both craptastic. Lol Thanks!
Wahoo! Great news. Glad you are feeling better. First trimesters are hard. So happy for you.

Congrats again Cajun! It’s good that your hubby is helping you so much. You’ll need that after too! I have the biggest baby and nursery Pinterest boards. I’ve pinned like crazy for my daughters! Woo Hoo! I’m going to have to come up with a way to keep my decorating posts from revealing the gender. Challenge Accepted!
EEEEEEE!! Man, my excitement for you is overwhelming. It’s fine if you don’t plan on sharing the gender because either way, your baby is getting something dinosaur related from me. NO MATTER WHAT. I don’t care if you give birth to a baby girl in a pink onesie and pink patent leather shoes. She WILL have a dinosaur outfit (okay, maybe just a dino onesie). If it’s a boy-well, we both know there are way more boy options when it comes to dinosaur clothing. Either way, you/Baby M will be getting a gift that is equally as awesome as my xmas ornament. Don’t cry, I know, my dino-gift giving can make people emotional… ;) LOVE YOU!!!
Bahahaha! Love it! And can’t wait for dinomania!
I am so ridiculously happy for you and your husband! I can’t wait to see the natural skin care posts;)

Oh, I love Citrus too! That craving isn’t quite as strong as the tomatoes, but it is definitely there.
