Here to give you a little motivation on this Monday morning, a perfectly simple and natural iced coffee recipe. Three all natural ingredients and make ahead convenience, so you just pour and enjoy! After all, who needs a hassle and artificial flavorings to get their caffeine fix when they have to go back to work after the blissful weekend? You may even be facing the first Monday the kids are going back to school, or if you’re like me, facing a longer commute because of all the extra traffic. I feel your pain. My commute is about to nearly double in the mornings. No more time to dilly dally at the coffee shop waiting on my iced coffee fix. On to the main event.
Gather your ingredients: Organic coffee, a can of sweetened condensed milk and distilled water (does that really count as an ingredient?)
Look Ma, No Artificial Ingredients! You can pronounce everything too! Truthfully, I found some amazing sweetened iced coffee that is locally made here in Nashville by a company called Switters. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice I posted about it not too long ago. It tastes so good and its made with these exact ingredients. I don’t know their recipe, but I just couldn’t keep going out of my way to buy three jugs a week without at least trying to make it myself. And it was a total success!
Brew your coffee of choice. I chose a whole bean with no artificial flavorings or preservatives. You can also choose pre-ground coffee, which I did on my first attempt. But seriously, you can’t beat the taste when you grind it right before brewing. Plus, our Cuisinart coffee machine has the grinder built right in. We use this one: Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker (affiliate link). I also tend to spill coffee grinds everywhere when we don’t use whole bean.
Now while it’s brewing, you might want to check out my Blueberry Riesling Slush to help round out your day. I promise, this will be your go-to drink of the summer. I mean, I don’t know a single person that doesn’t like wine. So, you should definitely try it frozen. Just a friendly suggestion from one mom to another. But, back to the iced coffee.
Crack open your can of sweetened condensed milk. I highly recommend storing this when finished in a glass jug. Plastic breaks down when heated up and releases bpa’s. I also think everything tastes better when you drink it from a glass. Put a funnel in your jug and start pouring the condensed milk. If your glass jug has a big enough mouth to not need a funnel, more power to ya! Start with half the can to 12 cups of brewed coffee, then increase according to your own tastes. I’ve never been much for restraint. My mom says I like a little coffee with my cream and sugar. Yep, I used the whole can, no apologies.
Once the coffee is finished brewing, pour it in to the funnel too. It smells so good right now {MMMMMMM}! Those man hands belong to my husband. I just thought balancing a full hot coffee carafe in one hand with my camera in the other {and a broken shoulder to boot} would be a bad idea.
Now seal up your jug, cover it with a towel and shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake your booty, shake your booty {while holding the coffee jug}! Trust me, use that towel just in case. You don’t want hot sweet coffee all over you and your kitchen.
Go ahead and taste it now and if you want more sweetness, add some more sweetened condensed milk. This step won’t be needed if you added it all to start with. What you need to do next is set it out on the counter to cool. You really don’t want to put a hot glass jug straight in to a refrigerator. Once it has cooled to room temperature, then you can stick it in the fridge. Next morning, you can just pour some out in your to-go cup and hop in the car to get your commute started. Enjoy!

I feel like this is one of those “duh” questions, but I have to ask, can’t you let the coffee cool down before poring it into the pitcher with the condensed milk or does it need to be hot? I haven’t made this recipe yet, just came across it today and I love iced coffee, especially this time of year, so I’ll be making it right away.
bloominginbedlam says
You certainly could. I just like the sweetened condensed milk to melt all the way.
Cindy Trammell says
Well, that makes perfect sense!! Thanks, like I said, I just had to ask!
Morgan Schuppe says
I made this recipe put it in the freezer and the whole jar of it froze solid. I don’t believe that is supposed to happen. What a waste.
bloominginbedlam says
Patty says
All you had to do was thaw it out! Not sure WHY you would freeze it. Hhhmmm
Ruth says
Not a waste if you just let it thaw. Why would you freeze the whole bottle? What did you expect would happen?
If you wanted it for later pour it in an ice cube tray or 2, and freeze the cubes; then you can put those in a blender at any time with some milk and make a Frozen latte.
Terry Gabriel says
Where oh where can I find a bottle like that?

So simple! And tastes great. I have a friend who insists on Starbucks. I think she just likes the name. I’ve been making my our ice coffee for years. This is amazing.
Thank you. I must share. 😋
Gwen says
I’m going to try that tomorrow, thanks for sharing

I have become an iced coffee junkie and with a certain national coffee chain in my parking lot it’s become an expensive habit. I just tried this recipe and am in love! I’m going to put the $20 I save each week into a fun fund for my kids and me so THANK YOU!
Ladybug says
This is amazing! Made it with mocha coffee and better than what you can buy. Thank you for sharing.
Theresa says
So good. I made it with bottled water.
Carol Douglass says
I have made a very similar recipe, if you want to ramp it up a bit, cold brew the coffee, way better than hot brew.
Jeanne says
The only recommendation I have healthwise is because you are using organic coffee I would recommend also using organic sweetened condensed milk. You can find it at stores that carry a little wider selection of organic items.

This looks like it is amazing, I love how simple it is!

I just found your iced coffee recipe. Someone mentioned chocolate. I would think adding chocolate syrup might make it too sweet. I think I would try some unsweetened cocoa powder. Just a thought. Also I had a hot latte at an independent coffee vender in a casino called a “French Kiss” and it was coffee and condensed milk. Even hot it’s SO good.
Kim says
Just wondering, why DISTILLED water?
bloominginbedlam says
Honestly, it just tastes better. And less build up on your coffee maker. Thanks for reading!
Ruth says
Distilled is stripped of any and all nutrients. Perhaps spring water?
Rikki says
Love this idea but i dont have a coffee machine like that. Is there another way to do it with out it?We make our coffee different here in Australia we use a kettle lol
bloominginbedlam says
Sure thing! However you make coffee, just add the condensed milk after you have about 96 ounces of coffee :)
Kari McLaughlin says
Can you add vanilla?
bloominginbedlam says
Absolutely! It’s your coffee, so you can add whatever you like ;)
Kari McLaughlin says
I made it without vanilla and I love it!
Katherine A says
Hi there! This recipe looks wonderful :) Mind my asking where you got the larger glass “pitcher” sized container that has the flip top lid? Thank you!!! – Katherine
bloominginbedlam says
Yes, of course. I got it at World Market.
Liv says
You don’t have any issues with the glass cracking after pouring the hot coffee in it? I used to use the same pitcher for iced green tea and it cracked on the 4th refill 😔 so now I use cups to mix the honey and leave them in the fridge then switch over to my pitcher😂
bloominginbedlam says
I didn’t have that problem. I used it for almost a year, then dropped it on our tile floor 🤦 Couldn’t find it again after that.
Nadine says
I made this it is amazing i loved it
bloominginbedlam says
That’s awesome Nadine. Thank you for reading!
Nadine says
No problem it was so good i gave some to a friend like 5 months ago and she is still talking about it :D
Giselle says
Hi
Can we use the blender to shake?
bloominginbedlam says
Sure! Use hot beverage precautions though so you still don’t end up with hot coffee all over you and the kitchen
lori says
I have made this coffee recipe and love the heck out of it. I drink it everyday and it tastes better than the starbucks bottles I have been buying and cheaper.
Ste says
How long will it keep for in the fridge?
bloominginbedlam says
I drink mine easily within a week, so I couldn’t really tell you much beyond that.
Heather says
Just made this today with a whole can and 12 cups of yuban gold coffee. It’s amazing. I will never buy iced starbucks coffee again. Thanks so much. Love this simple recipe :)

Also, I used a large 1.75 Liter of Smirnoff glass container and it works well. Fit’s the entire 12 cups.

Hahaha! I sing that when I shake stuff up also & my husband looks at me like I am NUTS!!!
Carol Douglass says
I have tried a similar recipe and it is so good. The only difference is cold brewing, and I have to say the cold brew method is sooooooooo much better, but a bit messier and time consuming.

What a fantastic idea. I’m so excited to try this. I love world market coffee as well but have noticed whenever I try a new coffee it takes a while to figure out how much coffee beans to put in the coffee maker to get the flavor just right. How much do u use for a 12 cup pot? Also where did u find that glass jug?
bloominginbedlam says
Thanks! The jug is also from World Market. I just filed my coffee to the max fill line since I used whole beans.
Emily says
I can’t wait to try this out! Like you, I prefer my coffee with a ton of sweetness to it. If I wanted to make this a mocha flavored coffee how would I go about it? Just adding some chocolate syrup to it and then shake it all up?
bloominginbedlam says
I would highly recommend trying it as is first, but then… yeah totally throw some chocolate syrup in there. While your at it, a scoop of ice cream and a blender wouldn’t be to shabby either! Who wants a coffee mocha milkshake?
Sreya Heng says
This is actually how southeast Asians take their coffee. Specifically Vietnam and Cambodia. Please do tell where you got the idea.
Amorine Phengvath says
I have to absolutely agree, my family’s heritage being from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Burma..the method of using condensed milk with coffee is considered to be “everyday” at least in SE Asian countries. Although, I would not be surprised if it was originally adopted from the French.

That’s great to know. It’s absolutely delicious. Thank you for reading and filling us in 😉

Looking forward to trying this. I agree about the glass. I just slowly started switching all my plastic to glass cookware and storage. I also converted from stainstick pans that flake to cast iron. I can taste differences in my foods now (for the better).
bloominginbedlam says
I really need to switch all my cooking puts and pans over to cast iron or plated enamel too. I just rarely cook anything that doesn’t go in the oven and haven’t made the investment yet. Glass was really easy to switch to though. Thanks for stopping by Janet!

This looks delicious and so convenient to have it ready in the fridge. Now why didn’t I think of that?! Every morning I make the coffee, then pour it into a glass (hoping it won’t crack!), add the ice, milk and sugar. The coffee is not cold enough and the only fun part is watching my dog waiting for his ice cube treat. I can’t wait to try this…condensed milk is already on my shopping list. Thanks, Cajun!
