You may be thinking Fall is a weird time to be thinking about bronzing oil. I would respectfully say that you are wrong. Here in Nashville, it’s still in the 80’s. Much too warm to be rocking tights with my dresses. But that tiny shade of a tan I got from a pool party in June has more than worn off to reveal my pasty, pale legs. At the same time, now that it is much less humid my skin is starting to get dry already for the winter season coming in about two months. Enter the perfect solution to both issues: Nourishing & Natural Bronzer Oil.
With Fractionated Coconut Oil and a bit of Shea Butter, your skin will feel supple and satisfied. But the Bronze Mica is what results in a little bit of magic. It’s a safe, all natural colorant. You can completely control the level of color without worrying about it making you look orange. It makes for a really natural warm glow. And best of all: No self-tanner smell! You could use it on your face, chest and arms, but I’ll be using it mostly on my legs. You ready to make it?
Get your ingredients: Fractionated Coconut Oil, Organic Raw Shea Butter, Cosmetic Grade Bronze Mica and Silver Mica (affiliate links). You also need a heat-safe glass container for melting, a glass container for storing and a silicone funnel for transferring between the two. I chose my 3 oz Glass Jar with Cork Top for storing so I could shake it before each use then use the cork for dabbing it on my legs. Win!
Measure out 2.25 oz of coconut oil and add 1.5 teaspoons shea butter. The point of the shea is to make the oil just slightly more thick so as to suspend the Mica in the solution a little better. It will still settle between uses, but not quite as fast.
Now boil some water and add that water to a dish. Put your shot glass of oil/butter in the recently boiled water. Don’t get any water in the oil. You’re just trying to heat it up enough to melt the shea butter. Stir until melted and remove from water bath.
Now add a tiny smidge of the Silver Mica, about 1/8 teaspoon. This will give the bronze a more natural opalescent glow on your skin. Then add a 1/2 teaspoon of the Bronze Mica. Stir well and test the color on the inside of your arm. You just need a few drops for a light veil of color. If it is too orange, add a tiny bit more silver mica.
See I told you I had super pasty white skin. Scary, right? {SHUDDER} See how the oil is still translucent? That is what helps you look so natural.
See the difference? I L-O-V-E this stuff! It’s just enough to make my legs look better without having to put bronzer on the rest of my body. My legs have always been the lightest part of my body for some reason.
So what about you? Do you still think I’m silly to be using bronzer in the fall? Maybe. But until it’s really tights season (late November or December if you’re in Nashville), I’ll be rocking the bronzer. How about you? Do you like to have a little extra glow in the fall and winter?

Why did you use fractionated coconut oil instead of whole oil?

So that it is in liquid form. I use unrefined oil with most of my recipes, but a solid form would not work for this.

That’s it, I like your blog better than mine. I want to live in your blog. Wait, that sounds odd.. I want to live at your home so you can pamper me with all your cool tricks and live where I can have a vintage radio that works with bluetooth..and where I can be tan with a natural tan concoction rather than my Mystic spray tan. Can I bring my family with me? And my dogs? Wait, I have a bunny too, Edwin, he cool to come too?

You kill me Smashley. Let’s start with a visit to Nashville and we can come visit California. The Monterey Bay Aquarium and meeting an ex-Canadian mom blogger are on my bucket list! I do worry what my dogs would do with your bunny though. It might be gruesome. But then they would lick and love on your daughter after. That might not make up for it though. Store the bunny at the vet’s for your first visit.

Thanks, You should make it, Jana! I was really surprised at how well it turned out. I was really just goofing off not expecting it to be as subtle and it just looked fabulous.

I’ve purchased the ingredients for the bronzer, but then the question came to my mind as to how well the bronzer stays on. Does it come off in the shower or bath? Will it get on clothes or bed sheets?
Thanks,

I sat on my white couch after putting it on without really thinking about it. Nothing rubbed off on the couch and it came right off in the shower. Think of it as leg makeup. ;)
