It turned to winter literally overnight here in Nashville. Low 80’s early last week, then BAM, last night the low was 27! BRRRRRRR! But I confess my skin has been feeling winter coming for a couple weeks now. Each night after my shower, my skin would feel tight and the winter itch is taking over. But unlike with previous years, I am armed with the knowledge to fix it! In recent months, I have learned how to develop beauty recipes to help with all of my skin issues! My latest concoction is this All Natural Moisturizing Almond Body Wash.
Gather your ingredients (affiliate links):
Dr. Bronner’s Almond Castile Soap
Cold-Pressed Almond Oil
Cold-Pressed Avocado Oil
Vitamin E Oil
Essential Oils
Dispenser of choice
Because everybody’s bottle size might be different, an exact recipe is not helpful. Pour Castile soap until your container is half full (3 parts). I used a 16 ounce bottle, so 8 ounces.
Fill your bottle the rest of the way with the three remaining oils, Almond, Avocado and Vitamin E oils (1 part each). If you have a nut allergy, you could replace the almond oil with any other oil you wish, like apricot kernel, fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed, or just double up on the avocado oil.
Now for the best part: essential oils! I chose my oils based on my skin’s needs. Cedarwood for skin regeneration, Lavender for soothing skin, Sandalwood to battle dry skin and Melaleuca for any skin issues like acne, athlete’s foot and it’s cleansing and rejuvenating properties. I used 10 drops each for a 16 oz bottle. Shake well before each use.
If you have a question about the brand of essential oils I use, send me an inquiry here. Due to policy regulations, I am not allowed to tell you directly. I promise to only answer your questions and WILL NOT pester you with newsletters and sales gimmicks. I honestly don’t have the time to be a multi-level marketing guru.
This body wash is so luxurious and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. As tempting as it is, try not to use ultra hot water when showering. If your skin still feels tight after a few uses, add more oil. You can use this for shaving too. I love how easy this was to make and replace the harsh sulfate-filled body wash I had been using. What about you? Ready to stop stripping your skin every time you wash?

With the oils in this wash does it make the shower slippery? Or hard to clean?
bloominginbedlam says
Nope. It mixes with the castille soap nicely and goes right drown the drain.

Hi! I want to try this recipe. From the comments it looks like it would be really simple. I was wondering where you got your dispenser. It is super cute and would make a great gift!. Thanks…

Hi Jodi, I got it at World Market. It’s an Olive oil bottle. Thanks for reading!

Would Castile unscented baby soap work just as well as the almond?
bloominginbedlam says
Yes it would! I am all about substituting similar ingredients you already have or that work better for your skin. It just might not smell like almond cake. Thanks for reading!

Hi Cajun! Sweet name btw :) I discovered your blog from where else.. Pinterest. Haha I’m loving all of your natural skincare posts (there may be more questions from me once I start attempting the OCM!) and I was just wondering, what combo would you suggest to add/change to this recipe for eczema sufferers? Also, I have been allergy tests and discovered I am allergic to basically everything that grows outdoors in tree or grass or shrub form, do you think that would affect which oils would work best for me? Thanks and love your blog!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Laura and thanks for reading. Honestly, I hesitate to recommend anything without you consulting your doctor. I am by no means a medical professional, so I don’t want to steer you wrong.

This looks very interesting! Hadn’t thought of making my own lotion either. Itchy skin is no fun in the winter. That’s for sure!

Linda, it is awesome! It smells like almond cake and leaves your skin feeling so soft!
Toni @ Debt Free Divas says
How long does it last? At first I wondered if it needed to be refrigerated, but I guess not. Interesting. Thanks!

Hi Tony! It should last 8-12 months. The only ingredient that is at risk for spoiling is the almond oil, which has a really long shelf life already.

Hah! My secret is I walk down any beauty aisle in any given store and look for something I want to try making. Then I research the heck out of how I want it to work and the potential ingredients that can make that happen. Don’t tell, K?
