There are few things in winter I hate more than chapped lips. But they can sometimes be inevitable if I don’t get ahead of winter’s punishing cold. The best way to prevent chapped lips is to regularly slough off dead skin with a gentle scrub and protect your pout with a rich, moisturizing balm. Today, I’m giving you the lip scrub recipe and the lip balm recipe will be posted next Monday. Here is my Citrus & Sandlewood Lip Scrub. Be sure to come back on Monday for the Lip Balm recipe.
I want to thank my friend, Lauren at Working Mom Magic for letting me know she needed these recipes to make her lips look perfect with all that red lipstick she wants to wear to holiday parties this season. This is really great for all my lipstick lovers and both items are so easy to make. To continue providing you with free recipes, this post contains affiliate links. This scrub is a little different than some of my other scrubs. Due to the sensitive nature of your lips, you need an extra gentle and small exfoliant. Baking Soda makes a perfect choice when combined with coconut oil for the ultra small granules.
First, melt 1/2 cup Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil (about 90 seconds) in a microwave safe glass container. I use one like this Pyrex 2-Quart Measuring Cup. Then add 1/2 cup ARM & HAMMER Pure Baking Soda. You can also add some Essential oils. I added Peppermint to help soothe the itch that has already started for my chapped lips. Continue to stir occasionally as the coconut oil cools, making sure the baking soda doesn’t settle to the bottom. Finally, pour into your glass storage container of choice. I love these Weck Tulip Jelly Jars.
If you have a question about the brand of essential oils I use, send me an inquiry here. Due to policy regulations, I am not allowed to tell you directly. I promise to only answer your questions and WILL NOT pester you with newsletters and sales gimmicks. I honestly don’t have the time to be a multi-level marketing guru.
To use, scoop out a little with your finger and gently rub on lips in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Follow up with the ultra rich lip balm recipe, which will be in my next post. Don’t forget to come back Mondday to get it! Have you ever used baking soda as an exfoliant? What’s your favorite essential oil? Let me know in the comments below!

I can’t wait to make this. (And yes, I’m still planning to buy the essential oils kit, just trying to convince the husband/find a way to not show the husband I bought it lol.)
Do you think this would ever expire? Probably not as long as it’s kept airtight right?

LOL! No worries. The citrus oil is going to make it last quite a while, as will the beeswax. I wouldn’t leave it in my hot car all summer though.

This sounds so wonderful! Sandalwood is one of my all-time favorite scents, and I can’t wait until I have that essential oil in my collection in the future.
