The Movember Foundation is the leading global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health. The Movember community has raised $559 million to date and funded over 800 programs in 21 countries. Back to the post, my husband can grow a pretty wicked beard and mustache. In a matter of about two days without shaving, he has a face full of facial hair. And I like it! There is something about a beard that makes men look so much more masculine. Obviously, this leads to a lot more kissing. But that prickly and tough hair can be itchy and uncomfortable. This Woodsy DIY Beard Oil is a great way to soften coarse hair and even has the added bonus of encouraging hair growth with Rosemary Essential Oil. And don’t worry if you don’t already own a bunch of manly essential oils, after many requests I am finally offering it already made for you in my shop. You can buy it here!
I’ve been asking my husband for a couple weeks if he would be willing to try a beard oil. I think he was hesitant because he thought it would smell like perfume or be too greasy. He didn’t seem to trust all the research I’ve been doing for my own Oil Cleansing Method recipe. So I sat him down for a smell test after I had picked out all the manly smelling oils I have. It was fun hearing him describe the oils he liked and didn’t like. He finally decided on Rosemary, White Fir, Frankincense and Cedarwood.
The ending result is a clean, woodsy and warm smelling ultra light oil that he really enjoys using. I used a base of one ounce of Grapeseed oil, plus 5 drops Rosemary Essential Oil, 4 drops each Frankincense Essential Oil and Cedarwood Essential Oil, and 3 drops White Fir Essential Oil. As I said, rosemary is great for promoting hair health and growth. Frankincense is great for overall health, while cedarwood is great for healthy skin. White Fir was mostly just used for the added good smell, but it also helps support healthy respiratory function. Finally, Grapeseed Oil is very light and absorbs quickly without weighing down or coating hair.
So how does he use it, right? Just rub a few drops in the hands, then spread through the beard, concentrating on the ends. If your man doesn’t customarily shower in the morning (we’re night showers around here), he can easily put a warm wet wash cloth on his beard for about 30 seconds, then add the oil. Like me, the husband liked storing it in a cork topped bottle so he can shake it before each use and just dab the cork on his hands.
What a good husband he is for letting me take lots of pictures of him. Good thing he’s handsome and not shy. :) I promise the beard oil will not yield the below results.
That’s right ladies. He’s handsome, handy and has a magnificent beard. Be jealous. You can’t have him, but you can make this Woodsy DIY Beard Oil for the manly-man in your life! Trust me, it’s husband approved.
As promised above, you can also buy it already made just by clicking on the photo below.
Do you wish your man’s beard was softer and smelled like the woods? Think you can convince him to try it?

What do you think about using Argan oil as the base instead of grapeseed? I like the idea of super lightweight but I have argan and jojoba on hand so figured it was worth your feedback before buying additional oils. TIA – such an awesome idea!
bloominginbedlam says
Argan would work, but I think Jojoba would be lighter.

Would I be able to put beard oil in a spray bottle ?
It’s rare to find and my boyfriend complains about doing that extra step, haha. So, I wanted to surprise him if it was doable.
bloominginbedlam says
You could certainly put some in a spray bottle, but I’d think it would be very wasteful and way too much product. He’d still have to rub it in, so it wouldn’t really save any steps.
Cheramie Kay says
Do you sell the Men’s beard blend? If so, what is the price? Thank you in advance and I love your blog!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Cheramie! Yes, after many requests, I am finally offering it ready to buy. You can purchase it in the link below or by clicking on the product picture with my logo: https://www.bloominginbedlam.com/product/woodsy-beard-oil/

Thank you so very much!
Nishita says
Hey, thank you for sharing this method. What other oils can be used instead of white fir?
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Nishita, there are several other options pictured above.

Where did you buy all your essential oils and what are the best brand to use?
bloominginbedlam says
Mike, I have that information on my contact page (see top menu bar).
Brittany says
Essential oils are quite expensive, are all of the oils required? what about just a few? I really want to make this for my man but not if it wont turn out. Which are the best oils if I’m going to try just a few? Does it feel oily while on?
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Brittany, you certainly don’t have to have all of them. It’s really just about what smells you like the best. And the graspeed oil base is not greasy at all. If you only want to use a few, I suggest rosemary frankincense and white fir.
Katie says
This looks awesome!
Do you think avocado oil would work instead of grapeseed?
bloominginbedlam says
It would work and be extra moisturizing. I would only recommend avocado if the person has really dry skin.
bloominginbedlam says
It would work, but I would only recommend avocado for someone with really dry skin as it can be heavy.
Kim says
Do you have to add the Rosemary my hubby has a full beard. I do not have Rosemary oil, what other oils can be used to make the beard soft.
bloominginbedlam says
The rosemary isn’t necessary if you’re hubby already had a full beard. The carrier oils will make it softer so the essential oils are really just for smell if your husband doesn’t need help filling in the beard.
Claudia says
Awesome article! How did this work out for your husband? I’m going to make this for my husband!!
bloominginbedlam says
He loved it but his beard is pretty amazing without it too. Much softer with the oil though.
tiffiny says
Would fractionated coconut oil work?
bloominginbedlam says
I would think fco would be too heavy for the hair, but you could certainly try. I picked grapeseed because of how light it is.

My hubby refuses to use any “products”- he even washes his hair with bar soap!!!!! But this seems like a great idea! I’m just starting to get “into” some essential oils so this is informative.

Rosemary will help support growth wherever there are follicles. But if there are no hair follicles there, well you know…

Awe, your husband is so sweet! Love this!
I never thought to make beard oil with essential oils.
That said, my husband is addicted to Thieves (we use YL oils). He went to the supply house yesterday to get some equipment for a job site. The guys were giving him such a hard time. I guess he loves the smell of cloves…..
bloominginbedlam says
I think my husband is addicted to our pain blend, but he seems to really enjoy the smell of this too. I think it makes him feel like a lumberjack or something. LOL.
