Now that I’m closer to my 30th birthday than my 29th, I think it’s finally acceptable to admit that I worry about wrinkles. I worry about the ones I already have and worry about more popping up every single day. So as usual, I turned to my essential oils for a remedy I can make at home, control ingredient quality and customize them to my needs. This is my Rosehip Cypress Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream.
Before we go any further, let’s take a look at my embarrassing before and after picture. This would be my results after two weeks worth of use. The only major differences in the two pictures below is the lighting and the fact that I do have mascara on in the after picture on the right. Oh and the significant decrease in puffiness and wrinkles, right?
So here are the star players and how they combat wrinkles.
- Rosehip Seed Oil: Anti-aging, renews skin cells, repairs damaged tissue and fades age spots.
- Mango Butter: Rich in antioxidants, fatty acids and stearic acid.
- Vitamin E Oil: Blocks free radical damage, boosts collagen production, supports new skin cell growth and speeds up cell regeneration.
- Cypress Essential Oil: Reduces swelling and tightens skin
- Geranium Essential Oil: Balances sebum, keeps skin supple and smooth.
- Lavender Essential Oil: Calms skin inflammation, relieves dry skin.
- Helichrysum Essential Oil: Boosts circulation, aids tissue regeneration.
- Frankincense Essential Oil: Astringent, tightens skin and helps speed up cell regeneration.
Combined, these ingredients make for a wrinkle reducing and preventing powerhouse! It may not be the cheapest product to make, but it is still really easy. And a little bit goes a really long way.
First, measure out 100 grams of mango butter in a microwave safe glass dish. I use one like this Pyrex 4-Cup Measuring Cup. I measure grams on a food scale like this Digital Kitchen Scale. Then add 1 oz of Rosehip Seed oil (the whole bottle). Add 1/2 oz of Vitamin E Oil.
Now pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute. I never Heat it until completely melted because the more you heat it, the more the beneficial properties are reduced. I generally heat it for 30 seconds until half melted and stir it until completely melted.
Let sit for at least 10 minutes until the glass is cool to the touch before you add the essential oils. Again, the least amount of heat possible to minimize the reduction of the powerful properties in those essential oils. Add 20 drops each of Cypress, Lavender & Geranium, then 10 drops each of Helichrysum and Frankincense. Stir well and pour in to your glass pots or whatever you plan to store it in. Allow to cool completely.
This recipe made twice as much as I needed. I’m going to store the second jar in the fridge until I go through the first.
Let’s look at that before and after pictures again for a little extra motivation. I honestly didn’t realize the change myself until I uploaded and compared the photos.
So what do you think? Are you going to try it? Let me know in the comments below.
Katrina says
Are you using blue cypress or cypress essential oils?
bloominginbedlam says
Just regular Cypress.
Jodi says
I notice you use clear jars for these potions. Why not darkened glass? Do EOs deteriorate with light? They are sold in darkened glass bottles.
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Jodi, that is an excellent point. EOs do deteriorate more quickly with extended exposure to light. I don’t generally use amber glass because I can get a clear glass jar at most local craft stores for about half the price. Also, I already store the jar in a drawer when not in use, so it’s already in the dark pretty much all the time. If you tend to leave those out on the counter or an open shelf, I would recommend an amber jar like you suggest. Thanks for reading and pointing that out!
Elei says
Thank you for sharing this! I have everything except the Vit E oil. There is such a HUGE variety of VIT E and I can’t figure out what. The Jason one listed I bought, but it lists sunflower oil as the first ingredient. There are others with a much higher IU number. Does that matter? Thank you!
bloominginbedlam says
Not really. The most important ingredients are the rosehip and cypress.
Shayla Tisevich says
Do you sell this?
bloominginbedlam says
No ma’am. There just isn’t a big enough demand for it to justify the investment to make it.
Susan says
Quick question for you…This sounds great and I can’t wait to try it. But, the amount of
essential oils you use are approximately a 4% dilution and the safe recommended rate, especially when using it on a regular basis, is 2%. May I ask why you used this higher ratio? Thank you so much!
bloominginbedlam says
Honestly Susan, I developed the recipe before I knew what I know now about dilution rates. Thank you for reminding me about needing to change this recipe! I would absolutely half the essential oils peon of this recipe.
Petra says
Actually I have another question. Can I use it under the area or would it creep up in my eyes?
bloominginbedlam says
I think like just about any cream, it is going to melt into skin, but also migrate a bit. It is safe to use all over your face if you want something very moisturizing.
kimberly says
Hi! I was looking for a place to leave a comment, but I couldn’t find a comment area, so i am replying here. First, I want to say thank you for sharing this recipe, I have been looking for a homemade eye cream recipe for a while. I just made it and I love how soft it makes my skin feel! However, I noticed the cream starts to crystalize almost like an exfoliant. Did yours do the same? I used raw mango butter so could that be the case? Any advice on how to make it more creamy? Thanks!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi there Kimberly! There are a ton of comments on this post regarding this subject, so keep reading those. I guess I need to add a little disclaimer or FAQ. Ultimately, I have no exact explanation why some seem to crystallize and others don’t. Mine never have and I’ve been making it since 2014 now. My best guess is that maybe some users over heat the mango butter or that one of their ingredients is not as pure as they thought. Some users have also reported that pure raw mango butter just does that. Either way, the crystalization should still melt completely. If it is gritty at all and something doesn’t melt, I would recommend a low and slow re-melt then straining it (or tossing that batch and remaking then strain before cooling). I hope that helps! Thank you for reading.
Petra says
Thank you so much for your help.
Making it today and next month getting the Geranium Oil.
Happy day.
Petra says
Hi.. I have a question I have all the ingredients but the Geranium Oil. Can I make it without it?
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Petra, you can. It’s a GREAT oil for skin so I encourage you to get it, but the most important ingredients are Cypress, Helichrysum & Rosehip.
Petra says
So I actually waited for my Geranium Oil to get here. It takes a long time for orders to come to our military postal box in Europe. But finally today it came. So I just finished it making it and can’t wait to try tonight.
I cut the recipe in half as I did not have enough container for the full batch.
Hopefully with this many oils it will not be too powerful.
Cheryl says
All this sounds wonderful. But with all the ingredients will it cost a small fortune?
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Cheryl, I already had all of these ingredients on hand, so it was nothing extra to make it for me. But yes, if you are just starting out in the DIY skin care world, it is a bit of an investment to get started. But that investment comes with a lot of peace of mind that you aren’t putting toxic ingredients on the most sensitive area of your body. Everybody has to choose for themselves what is most important to them.
Monica says
Will have to try out this but have a question what is the contraption your using to heat oils? I am using double broiler but what your using looks like it would be of better control on the heat.
bloominginbedlam says
It is essentially a double boiler as well. A sauce pan of water on a glass top range, with a pyrex measuring cup for the actual ingredients. The white platform in the pictures that the Pyrex is on is my scale for measuring ingredients. Thanks for reading Monica!
Josie says
Thank you for experimenting and sharing!! So many people have beauty secrets and don’t want to share. I was wondering, when you apply is it normal to feel “oily”?
It looks like a cream, but has felt greasy when I rub it in. I’m sure it’s how it’s suppose to be, but just want some clarity. Thanks!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Josie! You’re welcome. Yes it will melt and feel oily right after putting on your skin because all of the ingredients are either butters or oils. I found that if I put it on right after I wash my face for the night, it soaks right in by the time I lay down. But that heavy moisture is why it works so well. It hydrates and plumps dry skin and the cypress helps to depuff.
Maria says
Hi, in your eye cream you have used 130 drops of potent essential oils with 100g of mango butter and 30 ml of rosehip oil and 30ml vitamin E oil. I read that essential oils should be used very carefully and for eyes even double careful with dillution of 1-2%. So it would be probably maximum 10 drops of essential oils on 30ml of carrier oils or butters. I like the ingredients in the receipt, saw pictures with good results, but little bit afraid to use eye cream made in such proportions.
I am new to essential oils bussiness and not critisising, just want clarity. So much information on internet and so difficult to find right answers.
Thank you
bloominginbedlam says
You are very right to ask Maria! All the different measurements can make it confusing. Once melted, the carrier oils come close to 300 mL, while the total essential oils, is about 5 mL. If I were only using one essential oil, it would be much less. But with 5 different oils (all for different purposes), I am confident it is sufficiently diluted. This recipe makes 2 very full 4 oz jars, and those 2 lasted me an entire year before I had to make more. So, on top of being heavily diluted, you are still only using a tiny bit each day. No risk at all of desensitization. Great question Maria!
Maria says
Thank you Cajun, for quick and clear answer. I definitely will try this receipt when buy helichrysum oil. I do not have mango butter, but will substitue it with shea butter.
dee says
just an FYI that popped into my head while reading your post… concerning not over heating oil, which can reduce effectiveness, and possibly cause oils too go rancid..softening is required leave thicker butters and oils such as coconut oil @ room temp.,and or heat Pyrex dish for few minutes empty then allow too sway @ room temp. for additional 30sec. then add oils too heated measuring Pyrex cup!!! $ wha-la!! safer heated oils!!!!!??!!!!! :-)
Cindy says
I tried to make the cream but i did not use cypress oil. I was in the middle of making it when i realized that i don’t have cypress oil. I don’t want to leave everything unfinished until the next day so I use pomegranate oil instead. I hope the result may come close to your eye cream. Do you think it’s ok to use pomegranate oil?.
bloominginbedlam says
I have no idea, honestly. I’ve never used pomegranate oil and I’m not really sure of it’s properties. The company I use doesn’t sell it. I can tell you Cypress is the main ingredient that helps with reducing puffiness and wrinkles so I don’t think it will work the same.
Jill says
Does this need to be stored in the refrigerator?
bloominginbedlam says
It doesn’t have to be but it can.
Christina says
I have also read the almond oil is really great for the eyes particularly for dark circles (which is my problem). Do you think that might work in place of the mango butter? Thank you for sharing. I am just getting into EO and there is so much to learn!
bloominginbedlam says
Well, no it wouldn’t work in place of it because almond oil is liquid and mango butter is solid. I would add some almond oil, plus an equal additional amount of mango butter. Thanks for reading!
Monica says
I want to try this but the helichrysum is so expensive, is there anything that can be used as a substitute? Thanks!
bloominginbedlam says
I know it’s expensive but it is SO worth every penny. Unfortunately I haven’t found a substitute. If it makes you feel any better, there are about 80 or so drops in a bottle. You don’t need the whole bottle to make the cream and the cream lasts me about 4 months. And I slather it on. Somebody more economical with it might make it stretch 6 months. Thanks for reading!
Vicki Regenhard says
Can’t wait to start this recipe for wrinkles. Where do I buy Mango Butter?
bloominginbedlam says
Click on the link in the post to but it from Amazon. That is where I bought it.
Alia says
Hi Cajun! I’m so excited I’ve finally made this recipe! I’ve been eyeing it for months but it took awhile to aquire all the ingredients as a couple of the oils are pretty pricey (the Helichrysum in particular). But I had to have it and now finally do!!!
I’m brand new to EO’s but your post on the ones that changed your beauty routine is what got me started. The first one I tried was the Lavender in the mascara. Love that by the way. A little aromatherapy while I do my makeup!
So at last I got my Geranium and digital scale (along with a set of small glass weck jars from Amazon) and got started. I’m still waiting for it to cool but wanted to let you know how excited I am to have finally made this!
And what I did not realize was how medicinal some oils can smell (Cypress) and might be a bit off-putting for some. What I did was add about 3 drops of Ylang Ylang to the halved recipe you posted and that totally took any harshness off the scent giving it a more ‘palatable’ aroma.
Anyway, thanks for all the recipes. Can’t wait to try more usung the mango butter I bought. Any body butter recipes you want to share are welcome! Keep up the good work!!!!
bloominginbedlam says
Awesome Alia! I’m sure you’ll love it. I actually already have a body butter recipe posted using the mango butter. It’s my favorite! Welcome to the EO world and thanks for reading!
Lotascraps says
Has anyone with more mature skin (50+) had results with this recipe that they can share?
chris thull says
Could I use coconut oil instead of mango butter?
bloominginbedlam says
You could. It wouldn’t be nearly as rich or smooth. The results would not be the same.
Nilay says
How much time elapsed between before and after pictures?
I made this with carrier oils and put in a roller bottle and have been using for a while.
bloominginbedlam says
Two weeks. I would highly encourage making the cream as the recipe indicates. I chose every ingredient for its anti-aging, plumping and skin soothing benefits. I started with a roller formula myself and didn’t get the results I was looking for. A roller bottle formula just isn’t going to give the same effects because it sinks right in and isn’t rich enough. Thanks for reading!
Lisa says
what is the purpose of heating the butter and rosehip?why not just mix everything?
bloominginbedlam says
I did try just mixing it first and the consistency was very poor. Minimal heating just enough to melt the products makes for a very smooth cream in the end.
Jill says
Would you recommend this for someone with acne?
bloominginbedlam says
Well it really depends on what kind of acne you have. But overall I would recommend this mostly where you have very dry skin and wrinkles. I would not recommend this necessarily for all over your face, especially any oily or acne prone areas simply because it is so rich.
Jill says
Would there be any substitutions I could make that would work for my skin type?
Suzanne says
this is my second batch of face cream and I added carrot seed and patchouli as well. I love this cream. I do use it on my face in small amounts and not just under my eyes. Can tell a big difference since I started
bloominginbedlam says
I’ve been wanting to try carrot seed oil! So flag this cream is working for you.
Loyda says
How much carrot seed oil did you add to the recipe? Did you make adjustments?
Kim says
I am allergic tp mangoes, is there an alternative for the mango butter?
bloominginbedlam says
Yes, you could use Shea butter.
Delaina says
I’ve been using this for about a month and a half and I LOVE it! There is definitely a noticeable difference around my eyes.
BUT….
I’ve also been using it on my C-section scar which is a little more than a year old and I am amazed with the results. My scar was not healing as well as I had hoped and it was still thick, pinkish, bumpy and would itch quite a bit. Since I’ve started using this on it, about an inch on both ends have healed completely to only be a VERY thin skin colored line and it no longer itches…like at all. The middle section has thinned up dramatically and I have no doubt will heal as well as the ends have. –side note, I used mederma on the scar before trying this with no real results.
Thanks SO much for sharing this cream!!! I’ve been sharing it with everyone I know. Especially those with C-section scars :)
bloominginbedlam says
That is SOOOO WONDERFUL to hear, Delaina! I am so happy you took the time to log on and let me know! Thank you for making my day so bright!
Arielle says
Thats great! I have a scar right in the middle of my chest where I had a mole removed and I hate it! I will for sure try this recipe!
Robin says
this eye cream almost crystalizes on me. it gets hard particles in it that go away when i massage the cream on my fingers. what ingredient would cause this or how do I avoid this?other than that this cream is amazing!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Robin! Sorry my comment system seemed to think you were spam. Without being there and seeing all your ingredients, my best guess would probably be the butter you used. Maybe if it wasn’t super pure, there might have been something in it that reacted to heating. Another possibility is if you heated it too much. If they melt when rubbed and don’t irritate your skin, I wouldn’t worry about it. Thanks so much for trying the cream and leaving a comment!
Erin Campbell says
I just came on the page to report the same thing. :-) I made the eye cream this weekend and it’s very grainy. It feels a bit like the exfoliating lip scrub. The graininess does go away if I rub it in my hands first and then put it on my eyes. Hopefully I’m not absorbing the oils on my hands and not my eyes. I did buy the mango butter on your Amazon page so maybe it is something to do with heating.
bloominginbedlam says
I’m so sorry you have had troubles too. Yes, my best guess is you may be heating it too much, which leads to some sort of crystallization as it cools. You are essentially just remelting it by rubbing it in your hands first, so I think you should still be getting a great deal of the oil’s benefits. Thanks for reading and for your feedback!
Kaylene says
Hi – love your blog and just wanted to comment on this. From what I understand, true butters can just do that. You can buy refined mango or shea butter, but the health benefits are pretty much processed out, so I wouldn’t. Natural butters with their many benefits are prone to crystalizing. It’s completely normal and fine – its a price we pay for using pure products, thats all – it does not diminish the benefits at all. Blend on!
Love this recipe!
bloominginbedlam says
Thanks Kaylene- I had not heard that before!
Candace says
I just made this, and can’t wait to give it a try! How often do you use it? Just at night, or morning and night?
bloominginbedlam says
I usually use it just at night unless my skin is feeling extra dry in the morning. It is very emollient.
Erin W.. says
It’s been a few months since you posted this. Any more updated pictures of your results? Also, has anyone else had luck with this? I want to make a cream for my mom but she doesn’t “buy” the natural hype so I want to make sure it will work for her so I can turn her on to the natural method.
bloominginbedlam says
I’m not sure how the results could get much better so see no reason to provide additional pictures. My results have stayed though, so long as I continue to use it. I have especially loved the extra moisture as winter has set in.
Suzanne says
I am 63 young and use it morning and night on my face, neck, chest and upper hands. Love it and feel it has improved my skirt n a lot. I just use a small amount on face by putting in Palm and then on face. My daughter who is 40 loves it as well. I added a couple things above this time for a little sun screen.
SUZANNE says
I do not have a scale so can you tell me how much would the mango butter be in cups, tablespoons? I really don’t want to have to buy a scale for this mixture. I am 63 and am hoping for some great results. I have been waiting on all my ingredients to come and are finally in!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Suzanne. I’m sorry but I don’t have the recipe in cups or tablespoons. Trying to measure something solid by volume (cups or tablespoons) is very difficult when in solid form. A kitchen scale really is quite reasonably priced. And worth the expenditure when you consider how expensive the oils are. You can usually get one at a grocery store for $15 or less.
Suzanne says
Bought one at Walmart for $15. It seems on my scale 100 grams equals 4 oz
bloominginbedlam says
Glad you got one Suzanne!
Carol says
Hi,
I’m closer to 60, and have a problem with bags under my eyes, (as well as wrinkles) Do you have a concoction using the oils for this?
Thanks!
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Carol! I actually think this would work really well for that too. The Cypress Oil is all about tightening loose skin. Thanks for visiting!
Suzanne says
Carol I use on face, neck, chest and top of hands. Small amount goes a long way. Highly recommend 63 years young
Candace says
Would this stuff go onto the whole face or just under the eyes?
bloominginbedlam says
I put it all around my eyes. Eyelids and under eye areas. I think it might be a bit heavy on your whole face unless you have ultra dry or mature skin. I have been known to put it on my sensitive cheeks and nose area around the cold season because my skin can get really dry and flaky in those areas. It can’t hurt to try it!
Cheri says
Try also using Organic Jojoba oil it is great not only for moisturizing but acne problem skin and helps with scars and scaring.
Melanie says
I’m wondering if you think Shea or cocoa butter would also work for this? I’m already planning to purchase those and I am afraid I wouldn’t have much use for the other 13oz of mango butter! Thanks. :)
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Melanie, for some reason your comment got spammed. I’m real sorry about that and sorry that I didn’t find you sooner. Having said that, I’m afraid shea butter might be too heavy for your delicate eye area. I happen to love mango butter over shea butter for most applications. But I do have a shea butter recipe coming up soon- lol. If you’ve never worked with either, it can’t hurt to try shea butter first. Also, you can trade mango butter for shea butter in most applications. Hope this helps and sorry again I didn’t find you in the spam cache sooner. Thank you for stopping by and asking questions.
Melanie says
No problem! I got it eventually anyway. I haven’t actually made any skin care yet, I’m looking to make a few different items for Christmas presents this year. Thanks for getting back to me!
bloominginbedlam says
Christmas presents are a great idea! Although, this would be a very expensive Christmas present to make for multiple people. Might I suggest the Bronzer Oil I just posted or the Sandal ready foot scrub? Both are economical to make in big batches.

How would you feel if I did a post about this and linked it to you..I think everyone should see your results with it! Maybe a guest post?? Not sure how this all works because I am very new at blogging, but I think this would be a fun thing to put out there to my readers if you are up for it :)

I made mine last night. This morning it is still liquid. Does it take a long time to firm back up?
bloominginbedlam says
It really depends on the temperature in your house. You can keep it in the refrigerator, which is what I do during the summer.
Tina Marie says
Hi Camille and Cajun – I made mine this morning and it is still liquid. It’s winter here in New England and although the heat is on, it is not too warm in the house. Did putting it in the refrigerator work? I’m getting nervous…
bloominginbedlam says
Hi Tina, After making this several times now, I have found that if I heat the butter and oils too much (like that time I got lazy and just put it in the microwave too long), then it never really solidifies back. It can also form the crystals some others have discussed. Nowadays, I typically heat it in a double broiler on the stove very slowly on low and I have started to only put in 1/2 oz of Vitamin E oil.
